Bryan Stow Holiday Season Reminder

As I sit down to update this blog post we are entering the 2012 Holiday season. In this time of giving and opening our hearts, I find myself thinking about injured baseball fan Bryan Stow, still traveling the long road of recovery after his March 31, 2011 Opening Night beating in a dimly lit parking lot outside Dodger Stadium. The news from the Stow web site is mixed, with progress coming in stops and starts. There are encouraging signs and progress has clearly been made. The Stow family appears to be optimistic, grateful for the support they receive from a sympathetic community of believers, and looking ahead.

Support comes from a wide range of people and not just from baseball fans. From all walks of life, and wearing a variety of team colors, and some not, they have embraced Bryan’s cause as one of their own. They see our similarities rather than our differences. What happened to Bryan Stow could have happened to any one of us. Bryan Stow is any fan, in any city, rooting for any team, and wearing its colors that happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. He is part of a larger community who understand that his cause transcends team affiliations.

That’s where you come in. If you haven’t already, now would be a perfect time to join this well-wishing throng by taking any or all of these actions. A card of support can be sent to Bryan Stow Family, PO Box 884, Capitola, CA 95010. Fan groups from a variety of teams including the Yankees, Twins, Phillies, Cubs, Dodgers, Giants, Angels, Red Sox, Cardinals and Mets have started Facebook pages where they follow Bryan’s progress and leave notes of encouragement. If you are on Facebook you can join one. If you are a fan of another team and want to start a similar Facebook site for yours, please contact me at grubbyglove@gmail.com and I will assist you. Other groups exist as well, independent of Facebook. Lastly, donations of any amount to assist with medical expenses can be made through this site:

We wish to thank Chad Goodin for the use of his photograph of Bryan Stow.

    Michael,
This is such a wonderfully humanitarian gesture on your part. I will be sure to reach out to his family. Thanks so much for reminding us that his experience could have been any one of ours. There but for the grace of God…
    Take care, and Happy Holidays,
    Your friend,
    Bill Miller
