2012 Managers of the Year
Baseball Blogger’s Alliance members vote for a variety of post-season awards. These are my choices for the Connie Mack Award, given to the top Manager in each league.
American League:
1. Bob Melvin, Oakland Athletics. Under his steady leadership, a team that had a record of 74 wins and 88 losses in 2011, made a complete turnaround to win the AL West division, playing to a winning percentage of .580 that resulted in 94 wins and 68 losses.
2. Buck Showalter, Baltimore Orioles.
3. Jim Leyland, Detroit Tigers.
National League:
1. Davey Johnson, Washington Nationals. The veteran skipper led outstanding pitchers, key veterans, youngsters and role players to the best record in major league baseball, 98-64, and the Championship of the NL East.
2. Mike Matheny, St. Louis Cardinals.
3. Fredi González, Atlanta Braves.
