Honorary 1962 New York Mets – Chris Davis
In a recent game, Chris Davis played 3rd base and batted sixth for the Texas Rangers. In the lopsided contest the Rangers beat the Minnesota Twins by a score of 20 to 6. That’s a winning margin of fourteen runs. The Rangers got more hits and scored more runs in the game than any of the other major league teams have done this season. The Rangers offensive barrage was so complete that after seeing five of their pitchers bruised and beaten the Twins actually used their right fielder to pitch the game’s final inning.
How is it possible for ANY Ranger playing in this game to qualify for membership in the exclusive Honorary 1962 New York Mets fraternity? Please allow me to present the evidence:
Strike One: Chris Davis was the only player in the Rangers starting lineup to go without a hit in six at bats. Compare this with the 27 hits his teammates accumulated while clubbing the Twins into submission.
Strike Two: Davis had a horrible day with the glove, committing two errors in the field, both of which permitted the Twins to score.
Strike Three: Shortly after this game Davis was traded from the first place Texas Rangers to the last place Baltimore Orioles.
Chris Davis
A performance as noteworthy as this not only deserves, but demands, admittance to the team. So Chris Davis, congratulations from all of us here at Grubby Glove. You’re the next member of our “Honorary 1962 New York Mets!”

This is an ongoing series dedicated to my beloved 1962 New York Mets, an inept bunch who many historians consider the worst baseball team ever. They taught me more ways to lose baseball games than I ever dared to imagine. In this, their inaugural season, they won 40 and lost 120 games, finishing 60 and a half games out of first place. In order to be recognized, a current player has to do something reminiscent of the 1962 Mets. Trust me, this isn’t easy.

Three up, three down. You O-U-T!
Succinct and to the point.
Good work Bro.
Nice! This is my first visit to this site. I like this kind of “did you notice” writing style. The type of night Davis had was probably lost to 99.9% of baseball fans in a game of that nature.
Thanks, Rich. The stories in this category are written with great care, because anything that is 1962 New York Mets is very special to me. I loved those hopeless but somehow lovable bumblers.
